Ascension: How do we know we are ascending spiritually? One way is to recognize miracles. Often, we call things ‘a coincidence’ as a way of explaining something we cannot otherwise explain. It is also a way of descending. It takes us further from faith, further from spirituality, and further from the sense of awe!
If we can’t stop ourselves from second guessing our experiences we can check into the law of odds. I grew up with a mathematician so I like to assess the odds of a situation, almost for fun. I can’t use this method to convince someone of a spiritual miracle unless they are already on the fence. I can use it on myself when I’m descending. It helps me return to ascension.
So, the other day I took my kids swimming to the local pool. It is always a lot of fun there. Both my son and daughter enjoy playing in the water, which means there is no fighting, woohoo! On the way out of the pool, I found two quarters sitting on the counter, not far from the main register. I picked them up, asked the lady if they were hers, though it seemed unlikely, and when she answered with a plain, ‘No’, As I thought about it, I contacted the spirit world and said, “thanks, Shawheen!”. I currently attribute everything to him because it helps with my grief. He always seems to give me a happy image of himself, often a very teasing image, and one I don’t think I would choose on my own. This time he’s pointing at me like I walked outside naked and laughing full on!!
Coming back to the law of odds, I ask myself, ‘how often have you found money at the pool?’ This is a pool I’ve been coming to since I was a very young girl. I can’t remember finding money there hardly ever and never on the counter by the register. Before my son died I found a penny maybe 2-4 times a year. Now I find money frequently. For a longtime I found three coins so frequently it was startling, but not in a bad way. I was walking around in a grief fog and it was like he was trying to wake me up. Now it is more like he is reminding me he is still there for me, despite how hard it is to live without his physical form.
