Over the last 3 years, I have been working with a person who struggles with mood instability, psychotic symptoms, and addiction, among other things. In the last six weeks or so, this person has lost their shelter twice. It happens because of their own behaviors, but these are behaviors born from the illness. This recent time, this person’s symptoms increased dramatically, the delusions were really terrifying to them and the person struggled to even make camp, or hold on to camping supplies. At one point, they ran from a campsite due to hallucinations and lost their tent and sleeping bag. They became very suicidal and I knew they needed shelter and they needed it fast. I tried to get the person hospitalized repeatedly but it wasn’t working.
I finally started talking to my spirit guides, their spirit guides, God, Jesus, and any good spirit that was listening. “Please help this person! Please help me help this person!”
I had urged the person to contact a specific agency that I thought could help them and up until this point they had not followed through consistently enough. They would get the process started, then drop the ball, for one reason or another.
Within a day or two of my asking for help, I heard from this person. I was told that they had camped out on the doorstep of this agency and in the morning, went in for their intake. It is usually a two or three appointment process to get fully connected for services. That is bureaucracy for you! This time they rushed things. The person ended up talking to a supervisor the same day, was connected to services immediately, and given respite shelter the same night!
My prayers were answered! I couldn’t ask others to pray with me as the details are confidential. So, I just pulled out all the stops, asking every being I could think of for help. I was also calling their insurance and every agency in town to explore where they might get the help they needed, but the key was their own ability to follow through, given the severity of the symptoms!
