Spiritual Guidance by force

Spiritual Guidance by force

Many of us reach out to God or the spirit world when we’re struggling in our lives and we ask for guidance.  I sense that very few of us get the answers we need when we ask for that guidance.  It isn’t that the answers aren’t available so much as how closely we’re paying attention to the answers they provide.  Often, if not always, the answers are subtle.

I take vitamins to manage my stuff and to help me sleep well.  During the early part of my career, I supported the Western Medicine approach.  Over the years, I listened to clients struggle with side effects, suffer from medications that didn’t work, and doctors who didn’t provide help promptly.  At one point, I tried medication and found that they caused horrific side effects which were intolerable for me as was the case for many others.  I dug into the research, discovering that the long-term effects of the medication were poor and likely were contributing to the skyrocketing numbers of people on disability.  I found excellent vitamins and switched from Western Medicine to Natural Medicine.  For more information on this topic, please refer to a Ted Talk by Julia Rucklidge or The Better Brain by Julia Rucklidge, PhD and Bonnie Kaplan, PhD.

A couple of weeks ago, one of my nightly vitamins was missing.  I had left it on the kitchen table to remind me that I needed to buy more. I had been asking for help from the spirit world. I’m embarrassed to admit that I got on my daughter’s case because she had cleaned the table and had a habit of putting things in strange places where they were difficult to find.  She looked in the places she thought she might have put it but it couldn’t be found.  The stores were closed.  It was too late to buy more.   It became clear that I had to live without it.

First, I became concerned that I wouldn’t be able to sleep.  Then, I felt a sense of calm. It hit me that maybe my spirit guides had dematerialized it.  I asked them directly.  They acknowledged that they had made it disappear because they didn’t want me to take it.  They said, “You don’t need it.”

I slept well that night, but to be on the safe side, I bought another bottle.  I slept well for a week or two without that vitamin.  Then my sleep started to deteriorate, not terribly, but it wasn’t as good as it had been.  I was beginning to think about what I needed to change so I would sleep better: more meditation, more yoga, a change in vitamins.

The next morning while I was getting ready for work, my daughter shook something that sounded like a rattle.

“Here’s that vitamin you were missing.”  She handed it to me.

“Where did you find that?” I asked her.

“Right here,” she said, pointing to the small counter by the refrigerator.  I had looked there more than once and it hadn’t been there.

In that moment, I realized that my spirit guides had given back the vitamin I had been missing.  I reached out again, catching on to their method of guidance.  “Did you put this back because I need to take it now so I’ll sleep better?”  The answer was a clear, “Yes”. Unsurprisingly, I slept better that night.  They knew what they were doing.

As I said, I had been asking for help with my situation.  When the help came, I wasn’t clear at first that they were giving me the help and guidance I had asked for.  At first, it just seemed like they were making my life harder, hiding things from me that I needed.  With 20/20 hindsight, it is clear that they knew what I needed and what I didn’t.  They knew I wanted help but it wasn’t clear what change I needed to make.  So, they made the change for me.  They hid the vitamin I wasn’t supposed to take and returned it when I needed it again.
