Spirits scrambling the sound waves? My radio just going bonkers on me? Digital interference? What is coincidence? Serendipity? What are the odds when it comes to chance or something beyond chance? You can read the experience I had and make your own decisions.
For the background information: I drive a Honda Odyssey Mini Van 2002. It has been very reliable and other than needing standard work on the engine to keep it running smoothly, it has never given me any trouble. I keep my radio preset buttons on a local college station with mixed music, classical, country, popular oldies, and two popular music stations.
It never gave me any trouble until my son died in August of 2015. Shortly after that the volume dial on the radio went nuts! When I tried to turn the volume down, it would get louder and louder before it got quieter. Standard malfunction? Or is someone trying to get my attention? I got the connection in time. Was it a coincidence or something more? I learned to live with that oddity. My husband pointed out to me recently that I could change the volume with some buttons on the stearing wheel, they seemed to work fine.
For a few days…. Then they started doing the same thing, making it louder rather than quieter!! Then I was on my way home from the grocery store. I had changed the station several times to avoid news and commercials. All the preset buttons were working fine. All of a sudden, one preset became a classic rock station, another became rock n roll oldies, then none of the presets worked so I tried to scan for a station and nothing would lock in. It just flowed from number to number continuously, not locking in on any station for maybe 30-60 seconds. It was really irritating. Then they locked in again on the classic rock. I had to reset my stations after it calmed down.
Now was that a malfunction of the radio? Or my son trying to get my attention? I sure got the silly image of him with a cheshire cat grin after that. I asked him not to do that again. “Don’t mess with my radio while I’m driving!!” He just laughed at me.
